The Jets and the Coltranes are two feuding street gangs in Portland, the Coltranes being Forces of Light & Courage and the Jets being Dastardly beings Composed Entirely of Hate & Malice. At a tournament in Bend, The Coltrane member known as The Cruise falls in love with a Jet's player, Spacepants. They know they can't be together because of the Sectional’s tournament, but that doesn't stop them.

Meanwhile, The two gangs prepare for a rumble, and The Cruise tries to stop it out of love for Spacepants. In the process, his best friend and Coltrane leader T-Unit is handblocked by Spacepants's step-brother, Kilmer. In anger, The Cruise spikes the disc on Kilmer. He then realizes his mistake (not spiking the disc on everyone) and begs for forgiveness, which, of course, Spacepants gives him. They decide they have to leave the city, and the pointless hate, behind them. They plan to meet at Doc's Candy Store and take a Subie to Central Oregon.

Ma, the Jet that Spacepants is supposed to get drunk with, vows to cock block The Cruise to help out his own roommate. Spacepants begs her roommate, to tell The Cruise she will be a little late meeting him at Doc's Candy Store, but when Spacepants is adopted by the Coltranes as their new leader, the Jets angrily try to recruit new players living out of town to cover up their own inadequacies.
